So after I’ll have Another stepped up and made it happen over a strong Bodemeister the question is do we have a Triple Crown Contender? We have not seen one for years and the sport would love to have this elusive goal accomplished by a great horse. We will see if I’ll Have Another has the stamina to turn around and put up a show like he did in the Derby. Bodemeister still seems the one to beat in this race and if was rode a little differently might have one the Derby. The racehorse that became a war horse
Horse Racing Systems, News, Odds, Tips16 May 2012 | 3:28 amFollowers of Stat of the Day might have spotted a horse called Sgt Reckless making his debut alongside Buckhorn Tom in the bumper at Wincanton yesterday. Of course, there’s nothing remarkable about that in itself – there are horses having their first run just about every day. And despite his win, there’s no chance that Mick Channon’s Sgt Reckless will achieve anything like his predecessor of that name, who was a truly remarkable animal. Sgt Reckless was a small chestnut coloured mare that became a US Marine during the Korean War. She was recruited into the Marine Corps late in 1952 by… -

Stat of the Day, 16th May 2012
16 May 2012 | 2:26 amStat of the Day Stat of the Day: 16th May 2012 A quite bizarre selection yesterday, with the early 10/1 vanishing to 9/2, before drifting out to 13/2 again… And then the horse opened up 16/1 on course, before being backed into 12/1! In the event, Buckhorn Tom finished fifth and looked like he needs a much quicker race to show what – if any – talent he has. Onwards, to the southerly figure of eight that is the… 3.10 Fontwell I’m interested in Kim Bailey today at the Sussex track. York Dante Meeting Data Pack
16 May 2012 | 2:09 amDante Meeting, York Racecourse Today hails the start of the three day Dante meeting on the Knavesmire in York, one of Britain’s most beautiful tracks. As well as the second most important Derby trial, the Dante itself, there are another twenty races for us to get our teeth into, so I’ve pulled together a few facts and figures that might help. York Draw Firstly, the draw can be significant. That’s not to say it always is. But, in fields of 14+, it often plays a hand. So where to be ideally berthed? Well, on the straight course, which hosts five and six furlong races, middle… -
Beating the Odds by Nichola Garvey
15 May 2012 | 4:15 amYou might think from its title that Beating the Odds was one of those books full of ideas about how to improve your gambling. Not at all. It’s a biography of Alan Tripp, who started off as an illegal SP bookmaker in Australia before twice building up and selling on billion dollars legit offshore based betting operations. It’s the descriptions of activity in the twilight world of off course betting as recently as the 1980s that stand out in the book, a time when fixed odds betting was only legal on course. Tripp built up a huge telephone network in pubs and back street offices in a… -
The Punting Confessional: Beating the handicapper.
15 May 2012 | 3:30 amCurragh Racecourse Curragh, May 6th I managed to the get the flat season – or at least the punting part of it – up and running at the Curragh on Bank Holiday Monday with a pair of decent winners in Ondeafears and Wrekin Rock; that the pair came in 50-80 handicaps should come as no surprise to anyone who knows my punting methods. I realise there is something perverse in making your biggest plays in the worst races on the card – that was certainly the case here with the winners returning the worst and second-worst form ratings of the meeting – but I’m a contrarian by nature and…

Kentucky Derby 138
3 May 2012 | 4:51 pmThe 2012 Kentucky Derby offers something we haven't seen since Barbaro in 2006; the possibility of a really good horse. Trainer Michael Matz brought the world 'Pegasus on Earth' with his brilliant training job and the "sublime" performance, as Announcer Tom Durkin called it, by Barbaro who opened up by a historic margin to win the Derby. Matz is back this year with a very good horse in Union Rags. -
Betting the Kentucky Derby Undercard
3 May 2012 | 12:54 pmThe great thing about a card like the one that we have in store for us on Derby day, is that you do not have to be right often to make money. You can pretty much not only count on great prices, but also a shocking upset or two that could facilitate a $213,895.00 Pick 5 pay-off like the one we had last year. -
The Kentucky Derby – A Betting Paradise
27 Apr 2012 | 10:50 amAs opposed to years past -- when I forced myself to wait until the field was named and post positions were assigned to dig into my handicapping -- I am already dialed in for this year's renewal of the Kentucky Derby. Having watched so many different horses win the Grade 1 races from coast to coast, it is an absolute bettor’s paradise in the 138th Run for the Roses. -
The Blue Grass Stakes
12 Apr 2012 | 11:25 amOn the NTRA Teleconference this week, Dr. Kendall Hansen eluded to some sort of excitement and fanfare beyond Hanson’s mere participation in this Saturday’s Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. “Stay tuned,” he said. “We have a little something fun planned.” What could it be? Probably not dying the mane and tail - I think they’ve put that idea on the back burner after it was staunchly denied by NYRA in advance of the Gotham Stakes.

More baseball stuff
16 May 2012 | 2:53 amNot necessarily a Wednesday play here (though i am betting it), but more just something for you guys to watch throughout the rest of the year (or however long it lasts). It came to my attention a couple of weeks ago mdue to a friend of mine that lives in Colorado (and is a fantasy baseball expert) that it's been warmer in Colorado than normal for this time of year, and in a probably-related matter, they were averaging 12.6 runs per game in Coors Field. I started betting the over during the last several games of their most recent homestand, as the totals have been listed in the 8.5-10.5 range… -
Pimlico Special Stakes
15 May 2012 | 7:35 pmLittle Donnie sent out Alternation this morning on the sloppy Pimlico track and he zipped 4f in a snappy 48 3/5. All systems on go for this in form hdc winner. In his last in the Oaklawn Park Handicap going 1 1/8, he lead every call and easily disposed of the likes of Yawanna Twist, Nehro, and Hymn Book. 3 he will face again on Friday on the cut-back to 1 1/16. Luis Q. says he has never been better and the Von Hemel clan and Pin Oak Stud folks are expecting a dominant performance and a front running win. Will be a big play for me and a single on the late pick 4. Little Donnie thinks he is… -
El Padrino sent to Farm
15 May 2012 | 9:12 amCame to the Derby after working in mud at PMM and was stiff. Broke last in the Derby and ran on to pass tired horses. Came back lame and has been sent over to Winstar for secret rest. Word is he will be pointed to fall racing. No secret here, El Padrino will be sent to surgery and try to fix whatever the problem is. This is the kind of CRAP that drives me crazy. Namely, when a horse has a physical problem, let it be known what the problem is. If the powers that be want to do something for the bettors, then IMO these type of injuries should be made public, not keep it secret. It would be nice… -
Baseball play for Tuesday
15 May 2012 | 6:02 amRangers (Lewis) -1.5 runs, -115 vs. Royals (Mazzaro) I very rarely lay -1.5 runs on a baseball game, but this is an exception. Royals starter Vin Mazzaro got absolutely torched in a brief major league stint last year, before getting sent back down to the minors where he belonged (he was only called up due to an injury to Bruce Chen). In fact, he gave up a staggering 14 runs during a single relief appearance vs. the Indians. He later got bombed by the Blue Jays. Doubtful much has changed since last year, as he failed to make the Royals roster this spring, and since then has posted a 4.37 era… -
